Ensure that no one wants their bicycle having flat tire when riding a bike on street. However, this problem does not ignore anyone. Therefore, Asama will instruct the methods to handle it for all beloved riders.

Most common causes

Puncture by sharp object

Puncture tire by a sharp object is a common problem on the vehicle, most of them can be mended. The leak is outside of tube so when finding it in outer of tube, ensure that you are likely to be meet a sharp object.  Therefore, you should check the tire to discover it.

Puncture by pinch flats/underinflated

Pinch flats usually occur on terrain bike. It is up to heavy or light level to identify whether fix or not. All punctures frequently have vertical slide.  Besides, it’s not similar as punctures by sharp objects. The cause is due to under-inflated and hitting on tough road or potholes which make the tube pinch against your rim. When having any strong effect, the edge of rim makes two vertical slides on tube. These ones are inside of the tube.

Which tools you should prepare

While riding your bike, you need to bring a tire repaired kit and a spare tire.

These tools are included: mini bike pump, patch kids, tire lever, mini wrench or hex key/allen key.

How to operate

Taking the tube out

1. Take the wheel off the frame. Unscrew the valve cap and lock ring, press the valve head to empty air right out. Remove the tire by pressing the side of tire and repeat it to the rest of the wheel.

2. Push the tire lever into the side of the tire and pry its edge off, then pull the fat tube out from the tube. If you haven’t got tire lever, you can use your hand by strongly pressing to make the tire deviation and burst out. However, you will be required much effort and time.

3. Then, run your finger along it to check outer and inner tire whether something else prods or not. Be sure to remove any thing if you find them.

4. Unscrew lock ring and take the tire out. Be careful to avoid stuck valve which will damage the tire. Inspect the rim tape that it has to stay in the middle of the rim and cover the spoke holes. As well, it has not got scratch. The rim tape is not too wide because it will be protruded damaging the tire.

Patching the inner tube

5. Inspect the inside and outside of the tire to find any punched holes by inflating your tire with air and listening for any hissing noise and feeling for the stream of air or plugging the tube in a water bucket and looking for where bubble is.

After finding it, you mark there with chalk or certain sharp thing, for instance: punching the stick on the hole to see easily.

6. Use sandpaper or piece of metal with tine thorn of patch kit to scrub on the hole.

7. Apply a thin layer of glue to the tube which needs to be patched and wait for a minute to get tacky.

8. Remove the patch from its wrapper. Note, do not touch adhesive layer.

9. Apply the patch on it.

10. Press firmly until the air bubble is pushed out and then squeeze the orange-yellow glue in order to tightly stick.

Besides, there are some others which you don’t need to use the glue. You can get the non-glue patch (sometime called “self-adhesive” patch) that is more convenient and smaller. You just rough the surface, stick it and press down firmly.

Putting the wheel back

11. Before putting tube into the rim, you should inspect around the inside of the tube for any object such as: sand and mud, which may have damaged the tire. Put inflation valve into the rim and slightly inflate the tire with the air that avoid be being twisted or pinched the tube between the tire and the rim. Next, you carefully lay the tube in the tire.

12. Set the tube in the tire by strongly press the outer lips of the tire into the rim but you have to start at the opposite of the inflation valve and work the rest in as necessary carefully. You may need to use your tire lever at the very last part, which can often be trick to get over.

Be careful if the tube is pinched between the tire and the rim, it will cause the punched tube. So, you use your finger to push the tire gently into the tire. After it has done, just inflate with the air slightly and adjust the tube as well as pin the lip of the tube into the lip of the rim.

13. Inflate with the air until the wheel is full as well as the sound emitted is bigger because the tube is fasten on the rim. Note, you should not inflate over the limit number that is written by the side of the wheel. Unscrew the valve suitably, do not over squeeze it which can damage the tube. And then you close the nap of the valve and put the wheel back together.

With the article “Instruction for fix a patch a tire”, Asama Bikes hopes all riders can apply these steps successfully in order to bring a perfect cycling journey. Good luck!
