HOW TO CHOOSE AND WEAR THE RIGHT BIKE HELMET

Today, riding a motorbike with helmet has become a habit for most Vietnamese. How about riding a bicycle? Do not forget it. Helmets are also an important gear for bikers. To feel comfortable and fit while wearing it, scroll lightly down to read some tips that Asama will shows you.

Types of Bike Helmets

There are many types of bike helmets for different purposes. It comes in four categories: helmet for road bikes, mountain bikes, BMX bikes and city bikes.

Road bike helmets are small, lightweight and generous ventilation keeping you cool, comfortable. The lighter and more aerodynamic the helmet is, the higher its price is, but still protect your head. Moreover, there is no visor at the front. Therefore, when you run at high speed, the wind resistance will not against you.

Mountain bike helmets: The front and the rear are longer and wider to cover the head well because manufacture knows that you are hard to land friendly on tough terrain. Mountain bikers prefer helmet with visor than sunglasses as it provides a clear view on the shaded trails and also  observe view on the silly road well.

In addition, there is a downhill helmet with front visor which is extra-long to protect the eyes from dirt. It has a wraparound chin bar to provide face protection for downhill mountain biking.

Urban/commuter helmets:  You can use a road or mountain or even freestyle bike helmets depending on purpose and condition. They usually have realistic designs, bright colors to mark themselves when biking in rainy and dark conditions.

Measure the size of the head

Choosing a helmet that fits your head is essential. Most helmets come in small, medium, and large sizes.

To find a suitable one, the first thing is to measure the size of the head. Use a tape measure to measure the round above your ears. Not too tight. Then, follow the size chart of that helmet brand or size information stick inside to know which size is correct This is a very important part. Helmets must stay on the head because when you crash, it will not move on your head and give you maximum protection. Therefore, must wear the right size.

Wearing the helmet

# There is a knob helmet. Loosen it and wear on your head. Note that the space is 2.5cm above your eyebrows. Not too low, not too high.

# Then, you tighten the knob to fit your head. Do not make it too tight. It will cause headache. Shake your head both sides, up and down to check if the helmet is able to drop out or not.

# The next step is to lock the strap. There is 2 adjust – pieces under your ears. Adjust them to the same height. If the chin strap is too loose, adjust it until you can get only 3 fingers in. You can talk easily and comfortably.

Clean and maintain your bike helmet

Avoid using solvents to cleans your helmet. Only use of a soft cloth or sponge along with removal pads to wash.

Do not store in hot position such as garage, car trunk ... The heat can damage and chang the shape of helmet.
