The bike chain is one of the most important parts of a bike. If the bike doesn’t have a chain, it won’t move. Don't let an old chain destroy your bike. You should replace it before it's too terrible. If one link in the chain is broken, it will directly influence the freewheel and the whole chain. You should replace the chain regularly in order to save more repairs expenses in the future.

Separate the

With a terrible bike chain, you should not regret it. Asama recommends that you should change a new chain right now. First, you have to find the joint of the chain. You will need a support tool to separate them. After that, you can take the chain out of the bike easily.

Freewheel hygiene

It is the best time to clean and check the freewheel. You need to keep an eye on gears whether it is symmetric. If they are abraded too much, they begin to look like shark teeth. Assume that freewheel looks really well scrub them out with solvent – don’t let a clean chain run on dirty gears.

Installing a new bike chain

It isn’t difficult to install a new chain into the bike; everything you need to do is to follow Asama’s instructions. Starting with the smallest crawler, you should pull it over the front gear; then around the freewheel. After that, you pull it around the back wheel. Ok, let's get ready for the next step.

Adjust the length of the chain

The new chain must be adjusted to a suitable length so that it can ensure safety and performance when moving. Asama Bikes will guide you on how to adjust the chain length exactly. You should put the ruler stand to bolt upright so that it is perpendicular to the ground and the chain. You can use your finger to press the chain so that it slows down to the lowest position. Then, you record the number on the ruler at that time. Similarly, you use your finger to push the chain up and record the number on the ruler. If you deduct these two numbers each other, you will get the amplitude of oscillation at present. We continue to adjust until the amplitude of oscillation meets the manufacturer's specifications.

Cut the chain after adjusting

To cut the chain you need some specialized tools to support. You only need to put the chain into the center of the tool, then, adjust and proceed to cut. All operations are less than 10 seconds.

However, before cutting the chain, to avoid confusion, you should mark the location to cut. If you cut a chain in a wrong way, you will have to go back to the beginning. So, it’s very essential to follow this basic but incredibly important step.

Connect the bike chain

After the chain has been cut to a suitable length, you need to connect both of them. You should put the chain in a suitable position first, then, use some support tools to connect them. When finishing, you should lubricate the chain to protect it.
